Some weeks, I think Second Life is one big game of opposite day. Catch me on a really bad day, and I will say it is a virtual asylum. This is why it is so so so important to choose your people wisely. I will admit on my first time around on an avatar, I did the same thing. I was not me...I was a way more interesting and amazing me. I also thought there was an endgame like in any game. My super amazing self was surely going to rescue a Princess and take her up a ladder to a pot of gold. Winner! Well, it wasn't the case. In my case, all I did was hurt people and look like a total tool. I had to leave for a few years to understand what Second Life is to many. It really is a form of social media on steroids.
In the spirit of being positive, I assume when I encounter bullshit, that maybe it is their first avatar. Maybe they don't get it yet. Maybe their real life situation has not afforded them the social skills to interact with large populations. I have no clue, but after my initial "wtf" moment, I try on some empathy. You do not really know what another person's reality is made up of.
We are all adults for the most part. We will all commit the crime of poor judgement. No one is without fault. I think a virtual world should be the easiest place to start with showing forgiveness. Hate is exhausting. By now means am I saying be gullible. That adult thing combined with life experience should alert you when you are just not a good fit with another. Just use good sense, and sometimes give the gift of forgiveness.
