It seems to be a common experience in the virtual world that words get lost in translation. Tone of type is difficult to decipher. Body language is non existent. Of course, with a medium such as Second Life, you also have literal language barriers and cultural differences. It can be a virtual powder keg of drama. Throw in a rainbow of different personalities and life experiences that have shaped the way others react.
This is something I have experienced and still do. It can lead to the end of a friendship. In fact, it has. If you get the chance to stand back, and really just take in the big picture, there is actually an opportunity for growth. I think when you are in a discussion, and you start to feel your feathers get ruffled, just stop. Take a moment to really listen. If it isn't clear, ask questions...ask for clarity. If the person is worth having on your friend's list, they are worth the extra effort.
