Greg Allman RIP
The TUNE
"Crossroads, will you ever let him go..." Greg Allman / Melissa
That line from the song Melissa is rumored to be about the great blues guitarist Robert Johnson who went to a crossroad and sold his soul.
The music community lost another great this week. I can credit The Allman Brothers Band to why I started guitar lessons at the ripe age of 8. I heard Blue Sky on my dad's AM radio station on our way to a fishing trip. When I expressed interest in the song, he pulled out the ole trusty 8 track cassette, and popped in "Eat A Peach". I was hooked.
"You're my blue sky. You're my sunny day. Lord, you know it makes me high when you turn your love my way." Blue Sky
That album prepared me for every emotion I would have when it came to love found, and love lost in my adult years. Isn't that what all the great ones do? When that woman finally leaves you, it is going to hurt like hell...but at least you get a song out of it.
